Design Idea - The Imperial Grain Silo

03/06/2008

The Imperial Grain Silo in Leith docks is a massive distribution centre, more machine than warehouse and now a disused part of our industrial heritage.

The primary structure is made up of quadratic silos forming a continuous grid in two directions. The original structure has been extended twice; our proposal is to demolish these extensions, leaving the original piled foundations intact. In the remaining structure we would remove a number of intermediary walls and create a grand entrance space leading through to a new concert hall or other type of venue which would re-use the foundations of the demolished elements. The resulting design will allow people to inhabit the space whilst clearly explaining its original purpose to any user.

We have discussed the proposals with demolition contractors and believe this is possible.

A DVD movie of the concept is available on request contact us to find out more
