A complex, multi-phase project on a live site, incorporating both demolition, new-build and refurbishment works.
The campus sits in St. Brycedale Avenue, the main ‘institutional’ street in Kirkcaldy alongside galleries, kirks, a theatre, the train station and the police station. The solution therefore had to be suitably civic, but also project the modern image required by the College. A five story glazed tower is used to signify entrance, and enters into a street dialogue with historic roof-top pavilions and kirk towers. Internally, two dramatic multi-storey spaces have been created - ‘The Atrium’ sits within the retained listed building, and ‘The Street’ which separates old from new. Innovation has been essential in creating a cohesive campus and an appropriate urban presence.
