First phase of the new Administration and Support Services Building situated on the main Garthdee campus, to the southern edge of Aberdeen, by the banks of the River Dee. The building comprises open-plan office and meeting room accommodation over 3 floors, with committee and executive accommodation above.
The predominantly glazed ground floor sits on a timber deck and is set back, allowing it to sit comfortably on the tight site between the existing Scott Sutherland School and mature tree line. The over-sailing first and second floors are expressed as a timber “tube” and constitute the main building form, cantilevering over the ground floor at either end, reaching out to the landscape beyond. The third floor is designed as a lightweight penthouse level and is recessed, minimising the impact of the building form from the opposite bank of the River Dee and allowing external decked access.
