The Performance Academy is the UK’s largest education facility to house music, performing arts and media under one roof. The project was the first in a series of developments to relocate satellite schools to Newcastle College’s Rye Hill Campus consolidating the College estates and creating a new focus for educational excellence. It is also seen as a catalyst for further development in the Scotswood area and offers its facilities to both students and the community.
The new building was opened on schedule in September 2004 to a new generation of actors, dancers, musicians, technicians and all types of professionals in the cultural industries. Its contents are diverse and span an entire creative spectrum. A 250 seat main house theatre, studio theatre, 200 person music venue, TV studio, radio station, dance studios, acting studios, IT suites, recording studios, music rehearsal studios, production control facilities, editing suits, seminar rooms, lecture theatres, staff rooms, meeting rooms, bar and social meeting and gathering area.
