Tron Kirk

  • Date: 2007
  • Architect: RMJM
  • Client: City of Edinburgh Council
  • Location: Edinburgh, UK
  • Sector: Commercial
  • Value: £1.5 million

This project involves the conversion of an existing derelict church situated right in the centre of Edinburgh’s old Town.

Once converted, the Tron Kirk will become home to an archaeological exhibition area, a tourist information centre and a restaurant for 250 people.

The structural design included the insertion of a two storey steel frame which includes a fully glazed ground floor to allow archaeological remains to be viewed from above.

A new basement will be constructed to the south end of the kirk which will lead through a new reinforced concrete tunnel to the new kitchen facilities housed under Hunter Square.
